Is Divergent The Next ‘Hunger Games’?
Mark Medley, a writer for the National Post, published an article about what YA series has the potential to be the next Hunger Games. It’s no surprise to us that Divergent made the list.
Here’s a snippet from the article:
But that’s hindsight. If one were to wager on the next Suzanne Collins, the smart money would be on a 23-year-old native of Chicago.
“If I were to take a guess, I would say Veronica Roth’s Divergent,” says Lita Barrie, president of the Canadian Association of Children’s Librarians. “It is maybe a little too similar to The Hunger Games to be the next big thing, but I know we’ve had a teen or two come in and sign up for a library card just to borrow the book, so that’s always a telling sign.”
Olfati compares it favourably to The Hunger Games. “I can’t tell you which book is better than the other,” he says. “You gotta read it.”
Insurgent, the second book in the series, which is set in a futuristic Chicago where teens must choose one of five factions to spend their lives, comes out in May, and according to Olfati it “lives up to” the first.
