The Chicago Public Library Foundation and the Chicago Public Library announced this week that Veronica Roth, will receive their 21st Century Award.  We couldn’t be more proud of her and all her hard work. We can’t imagine how amazing it feels to be recognized by the city where it all started.

Here’s what the announcement had to say:

Chicago author Veronica Roth will receive the 21st Century Award from the Chicago Public Library Foundation and the Chicago Public Library, it was announced Monday. The library’s top award, the Carl Sandburg Literary Award, will go to authors Doris Kearns Goodwin and Larry McMurtry.

The 21st Century Award goes to an early-career author with Chicago ties. Roth, 25, author of the best-selling “Divergent” trilogy, was raised in Barrington and is a graduate of Northwestern University’s creative writing program.

The three “Divergent” books — including the final one, “Allegiant,” which was released in October — have sold more than 11 million copies, according to Publisher’s Weekly. The film adaptation of “Divergent,” starring Shailene Woodley as Beatrice “Tris” Prior, is set to be released March 21.

The Carl Sandburg Literary Award honors an author’s entire body of work. Goodwin is the author of a number of best-selling nonfiction books, including “The Bully Pulpit,” which was released in November. McMurtry has written more than 35 books and screenplays, including co-writing the adapted screenplay of “Brokeback Mountain,” for which he received an Academy Award. Both authors have won Pulitzer Prizes.

The authors will receive their awards at the Oct. 22 Carl Sandburg Literary Awards Dinner.
